| The brand is actually almost always becoming the manifestation of the qualities of leadership of a company. But also the other way around, the brand could be there to help leaders to become those good, modern leaders that business life of today requires. |

| Overcrowding, too many brands, too much advertising, your brand is drowning. Because they are saying pretty much the same. Solving this problem means making cult brands, brands that really appeal to your heart. |

| My current work largely focuses on the branding of places (districts, cities, regions and countries). The main challenge is to create a brand partnership. |

| We need branding in order to lead people (both employees and customers). A man who leads has been called ‘a leader’ traditionally. |

| If I am told how to move my legs when walking, how to walk round puddles, how to pay for my luggage, but nobody bothers to say where this road is going to take me, I won’t move. |

| | By the time a leader comes to realize his role it depends to a lesser degree on other people than he first thought. At that moment he becomes aware that all his life he has been trying to manage a more complex object – himself. |

Apocrypha of management theory

| A passage from the topic of our previous issues – cybernetics – on to neurolinguistic programming (NLP) seems quite natural to us, not because of the associations with the word programming, but, rather, in spite of them. In the essay on cybernetics we noted that it is a mistake to restrict this science regarding the general principles of management only to computing. Similarly, plenty of misunderstanding and sheer mythology has surrounded NLP. We asked one of the foremost experts in this field, Mikhail Grinfeld, to help us understand what exactly nlp is and how it can be useful to managers. |

| | In the period of sexual liberation (in the 1960’s and 70’s) there was a peak of sexual activity with minimum reproduction. Nowadays, in a society in which cloning and genetic advancements are becoming commonplace, society dreams of the opposite: reproduction with minimal sex. The Body used to be a metaphor of the heart and of feelings. |

| | In an age-old Scandinavian epic there is a legend about a hero Kvasire. Created by the most esteemed gods, he became famous for his deeds of courage and his wisdom. His life was not easy, nor long. He died from enemies’ hands in his prime. But his deed is still alive. His blood was mixed with mead and became a source of knowledge for the next generations. And whoever tries this drink becomes more courageous and wiser. Thus a Poetry Mead appeared on the earth. |

| | For about two decades The World Economic Forum has been trying to investigate the question of why some countries are able to grow on a sustained basis for a long period of time, in the process pulling large segments of the population out of poverty, while others remain stagnant or, worse, actually show an erosion of living standards. |
